Using Foreground and Background

Using their notes students will show a mastery of the concepts in creating a point of emphasis laid out in the "Using Foreground and Background" lecture. Students can refer to the notes or the lecture in the Reference section for a more thorough definition. Below will be a list of the necessary photos and examples of the more complex concepts. 

Students will take 2 sets of photos. One on campus and one off campus that completes the list of composition types that create a point of emphasis.

  1. Color or tone to highlight the subject

  2. Use lines

    1. Converging (can be physical or implied)​

    2. Curves

  3. Rule of thirds​

  4. Use of a balancing backround object

  5. Silohuette

  6. Tonal Interchange (Home only)

  7. Frame within a Frame

    1. Physical frame behind or in front of the subject​

    2. colored object behind the subject

  8. Breaking the Horizon​

  9. Hard light photos that show well defined shadows

  10. Photos that are taken in a soft lighting situation
