Pen Tool Exercise Part 2

Learning to use the pen tool to create a series of shapes that are a combination of curved and straight lines.

 

Assignment

 

 

• For this project you will:

• Download the "Cartoon Silhouette" file here

• In Adobe Illustrator

  • The Pen Tool (P)

    • to create a series of outlines that help in learning how to use the pen tool in Illustrator

      • These outlines should be

        • One continuous line around the whole silhouette

          • except in the case for small hairs that protrude out from the object

          • Use a red outline to see where you are tracing vs. the black shape

            • When you finish the tracing press "X" to switch from a red outline to a red fill

    • Start with a simple character like Sponge Bob or Casper and work your way to a more complex character such as Goofy

  • The Layer Palette

    • Lock the layer with the Cartoon Silhouette

    • Create a new layer for each drawing

  • After completing the exercise

    • To the point you are comfortable using the pen tool

    • Create a JPEG of the Illustrator file

      • File>Save for web and devices...

      • Use "JPEG" as the file format

    • Create a new wiki page entitled "Pen Tool Exercise 02"

      • Insert your newly created JPEG onto the page

 

Requirements

• Your file must be on your wiki.

• Make sure you are comfortable with the pen tool before you upload the file

  • The work uploaded should be the best you can do

    • If you have questions or can't figure something out ask me

    • All assignment following this will involve heavy use of the pen tool
